Nosislav terroir

All of our vineyards are located in the Výhon Nature Park, where there is incredible biodiversity. Over time, we have shifted our focus to enhancing these naturally occurring elements in our vineyard, by creating stone enclosures for our vines and planting hedges to establish our own macroclimate. Our time is mostly spent in the vineyards, ensuring that our vines are protected and nurtured throughout the growing year. The vast majority of our vineyards are on slopes of up to 20°, with soils based on clay, loess and limestone. The average age of the vines is 20 years, with the oldest being 30 years old. Our slopes face south and south-west, and because of the low rainfall, the vines are forced to root much deeper into the soil. We have been recognised for our sustainable, environmental approach in the Diverse Landscape competition.

There is only one nature

Our approach to wine is simple: Let our diverse landscape be reflected in our wine. We avoid using industrial fertilizers, pesticides, and systemic preparations and instead work with conscientious care and respect for what nature has given to us. The essence of organic viticulture is prevention, and we strive to anticipate risks and challenges. By working with nature, hand-harvesting, making our own compost, and dry farming, we do everything we can to have the highest quality raw material. Nature has managed without us, we just aim to live in harmony with it.

History of our Winery

Low intervention wine making

We recognize that by using spontaneous yeast fermentation with minimal sulphur additions, we will have the optimal result, creating a diverse and varied production. We consider wine to be more of a work of art than an assembly line product. We hope to simply guide the wine, not manipulate its character. It is absolutely essential to us that the local terroir is recognisable in each wine, and not masked by the substances that are often added to wine today. All our wines come from our own vineyards, without which we would be producers but not winemakers. Come and taste them for yourself.

From Paliva to Pinot

We focus on cultivating varieties that have historical, local origin and regional significance. The most important are Welschriesling and Rhein Riesling, Pálava, Grüner Veltliner, Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Moravia. Early on, we planted international varieties which we are proud to continue working with, like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. We also like to experiment with rosé wines and cuvées, such as Nosislav Ryšak,

La Guerre, Black Velvet and the popular, Bellus. Recently, we have gravitated towards natural wines, unfiltered, orange wines and Pet-Nats. No matter the style, we strive for purity of taste, producing wine that is a reflection of our natural surroundings.

30 years of family winemaking

Our winery was founded in 1991 by Karel and Milada Valka. Since the beginning, we have implemented organic farming practices. Starting with only a few vines, our family winery has now expanded to 11 hectares, with production nearing 50,000 litres a year. We have also added pumpkin patches, cherry and apricot trees to the property. Today, the entire family and several employees manage our winery operations. In addition to our wine, we also devote our time to hosting wine tastings in our courtyard and organizing musical performances. Milada and Karel have forged the path, and now it is in the hands of the younger generation.

Truly family winery

Karel, the founder of our winery, opted to eliminate the use of harmful chemicals in the vineyards, after his prior experience working in an agricultural cooperative. After founding our winery, he approached winemaking using
a natural approach and maintains that ethos to this day.
It didn’t take long for Milada to join him, presenting our winery with firmer goals and direction, and for many years, serving as the winemaker. Thanks to the incredible strength and determination of the founders, our winery continued to develop. Later, the youngest member of the family, Vojta, joined in and is now the winemaker. Natálka helps him along the way and is his unwavering support. In the family winery, everyone often does a little bit of everything, but everyone knows exactly where they excel. Sometimes even a family needs help, so we thank everyone who helps us along our way.
